We've all experienced feeling high on music. When the perfect song plays at the perfect time, you can experience a sense of euphoria. Now NERVANA can help you gain and amplify that sense by creating a more stimulating listening experience. Literally.

In addition to music, NERVANA headphones send synchronized, low-power signals through your ear-canal to stimulate your vagus nerve. This collection of nerves play a role in the release of dopamine. When you get a hit of dopamine, you feel amazing. Dopamine is the “feel-good” chemical that the brain releases to motivate and reward you when you take part in activities like having sex or eating a delicious meal.

The CEO of NERVANA explained in an interview:

There’s an electrical signal that’s paired with music. It follows the beat of the music, and it makes it really pleasant. Through a conductive earbud, it sends a message through the vagus nerve in your ear, which sends a message to the brain to release dopamine, your feel-good neurotransmitter that naturally occurs in the brain.
— Ami Brannon, CEO of NERVANA

The headphones have three different modes:

  1. Music
The headphones synchronize the nerve stimulation with your music.
  2. Ambient
This mode is designed with live concerts in mind. The headphones stimulate the vagus in synchrony with ambient noises.
  3. Formula
    You get stimulated without music.

NERVANA debuted at CES and won the Techstars award for Lifestyle and Digital Health

The headphones were crowdfunded through Indiegogo. Backers are estimated to receive their headphones by August 2016 for a cost of $289.
